The Road's Review: Reflection

Hey Texas 4-H!  I hope everyone had a blast at roundup.  The hard work we have put into this project was definitely worth it.  I was a junior this year so next year I will see all of  you again as a "Has Been"  state council member. :)

Whitley and Colt-  You guys are amazing!  Thank you for everything.  You inspired me when I had writers block, you helped when I was crazy busy, and you were the best friends I needed.  Y'all were great to work with.  It was so so so much fun!  I'll come visit y'all next year... "college tours."

Amy & Texas Tech Collegiate 4-H- We couldn't have done it without you!  Thank you so much! Y'all rock!!!

Good luck to next year's press corps.  I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.  A word of advice... bring breakfast food with you!  You'll thank me later. :)

Last day, Last pep rally, last blog...

ABOVE: Shannon Piccard Guest Speaker

Hey guys, it's the last day here. It's been along hard trip, and we have loved every crazy second of it. I'm gonna miss Erin, Whitley, Amy and the whole press corp team. But I thought I would this trip of ours with you on a happier note. Below we will have two videos, the first one is an interview with our guest speaker today from the pep rally, Shannon Piccard. The second is some humour and some wise words of wisdom from Shannon for everyone to hear. I hope you enjoy it all, and I hope that next years Press Corp or anyone who can will benefit from this project of ours. Safe travels home. Always in Green.

From the Field to Floor, Contest to Assemblies

Finally! I have found time! It's been a crazy day! I'm one-fourth of a range judging team who spent three hours waiting in the rain for lightning to stop so we could go to our judging contest. It never did stop, and only pushed me three hours behind schedule. I've been running like crazy, and will only stop on Friday. Props to everyone who does judging contests. If it's not one thing, it's always another. But I would never trade it for anything!
Tonight's assembly really portrayed the new style of roundup. We kept 4-H Has Talent a bit of a secret under the guise of "movie night." 4-Hers gave a stellar performance in the talent show! Shout out to our Council VP, Matt Kinsel, for representing us amazingly well with his dance routine with his sister! Y'all were great!

5 brothers won the hearts of 4-Hers with their apapella song collection. They brought down the house with Indian Jones, Star Wars and YMCA remixes. But who, I asked, were the judges?

We were...that's right Texas 4-H members! We had our very own America's Got Talent (hence, 4-H Has Got Talent.) It was complete with live, texting voting. Very, very cool!

Another technology advance was live video streaming of the final Food Challenge. Think Iron Chef meets 4-H. It was killer! All in all, we had a great assembly and I am looking forward to our new events becoming traditions in the future.

Guest Blog: Amy Dromgoole

Hey everyone! Hope you are all having a wonderful time at the 2010 Texas 4-H State Roundup. We have been very busy working on the completion of Day 3 and 4 issues of Clover Coverage: The Road's Review. Overall, this has been an awesome experience. I am thankful to be able to use my skills to give back to a program that shaped me into the person I am today.

The people I have been blessed to work with are great-- Kyle Merten, Colt Helmer, Whitley James and Erin Reid. Everyone was vested in making this new aspect of roundup a success. Sure, we've hit some bumps along the road but I think this new project has been very well received.

I have seen people reading the issues and it makes me proud (even though I talked to one kid who made it into a hat to shelter him from the rain) that people are reading something that we all put a great deal of time and effort into.

After this busy week of promoting Texas Tech University, Collegiate 4-H, Clover Coverage and 4-H as a whole, I have got to say it has made me proud to be a part of this great organization.

Busy Bees!!!

Below: Matt Kinsel before the spirit competition

Hey everyone! I have just settled down after competing in livestock judging all day long. Let me tell you, four sets of reasons can take alot out of a busy girl like me. I want to congratulate every team that made it to state roundup this year. Livestock judging is very competitive and I know everyone has worked so hard for today. This was my last livestock judging contest ever so I'm kind of bummed, but hopely I can get on some judging teams at Texas A&M! So since I have gotten back from livestock I have heard nothing but great things about this morning's Clover Coverage distribution and ESPECIALLY the Pump it Up Pep Rally. I would like to shout out to Nate Newman and the rest of his committee for doing a fantastic job on preparing for the rallies and I can't wait for everyone to experience Shannon Pickard in tomorrow's rally. I hope everyone has fun at the assembly tonight and good luck to all who still have contests!

P.S.-The photos above are of today's pep rally!

Wake up call, get your papers, right here!!!

So my alarm woke me up at 5:45, hit snooze, rollover at 6:00 and crawl out of, get ready for the day, wake up Erin, and start at registration at 7:00. We skipped breakfast, but it was all worth it. Passed out a lot of today's Road's Reviews and it was awesome, we were really amazed by the turnout we received from the participants and their families. We can't wait to have an even larger turnout tomorrow. We're going to be setting a few up at our table in the Koldus Building at the Registration Center and I will be passing them out next to our table in Rudder Tower. Look for the kid drinking coffee and with the tired look on his face passing out yellow papers! There's gonna be a inteview with Brison Bursey Band who we can't wait to see later tonight and tomorrow we will hopefully have footage from the concert if all of our plans go well. We've been busy people today, problems with articles in tomorrow's paper that we found and all had to correct, so we weren't the best on our nerves today. It's all done and we're all ready for tomorrow begin. Awards presentation is at 8 p.m so be there or be circle! Get ready for the Brison Bursey Concert at the Zone and Kyle Field! I'll be seeing you in the morning!

And today means we begin the fun process! (and the registration one)

The road to roundup starts long before anyone arrives at College Station; but, we all know the fun starts as we register for roundup and move into the dorms. Thus begins an intense fun filled week known as Texas 4-H Roundup! Registration opened today at the Koldus Building across from Rudder Tower. Don't forget to keep your name tag on at all times! We want to know who y'all are! (Plus, you can't get into the concert or the dance without one.) Unfortunately, you can't get your roundup t-shirts until tomorrow, Tuesday, in the Koldus Building. Be sure to be double check on the times you can pick them up when you register. Roundup starts now! Good luck as you begin the week of Roundup.

Up with the sun, and so up we go!!!

The first day is here! We spent the morning being very busy on top of being very tired. We made all of our own signs for all the tables where you will be able to pick up your daily editions of Clover Coverage. We can't wait to see everyone walking around reading our articles! I can't wait to see people reading the Road's Review and hear all the talking about it in the halls and the Commons. I have this image in my head that everyone on this project shares of walking into the Commons at night and seeing tons of 4-Hers reading their paper and gossiping about it over the pool tables and by the snack machines. We've all been working hard and we all hope everyone enjoys it and appreciates it. We were talking this morning about when we first came up with the idea for a paper at roundup. It was all rough ideas that lead to questions like "What are you going to name it? What articles are you gonna write? What are you going to blog about? Does anyone even know how to blog?" They were all rough ideas. However, now it's here and roundup is here, and today everyone arrives! So everyone and everything is here and our paper is eagerly waiting to go into your hands! Below is a picture of the tables and signs where you will pick up your morning Clover Coverage issue. The one below is in Rudder Tower. Hope you enjoy the first issue tomorrow, but for now it looks like I have to get back helping the rest of your Road's Review Staff finish all of our signs and add some final touches to things. Hope you got here well, and your Road's Review Staff and I will see you in the morning!

Live From Aggieland at Rudder Tower!!

Can you say "hot and humid?" We can! However, we all made it and we are having a blast updating our papers, editing, retyping and being the busy Road's Review Staff we are. Tomorrow starts the first day of individual posting from each of your State Council Road's Review Staff members so be checking the blog constantly for updates! Today we have updates from two of our collegiate staff members from Texas Tech. Agricultural Economics major Sara Schwertner and Environmental Conservation and Natural Resources major and former Texas 4-H Council Member Trevor Gicklhorn.

When asked what it felt like to be part of a new tradition Trevor said "as a previous state council member, I couldn't be more excited to begin this process. 4-H has always been a part of my life and helping with new changes is another aspect I look forward to" When asked how she felt about being apart in this new project Sara said "helping with Clover Coverage has been a fun experience so far. We have been editing articles and tweaking layouts with the Clover Coverage Staff. I have always been involved in 4-H and this is a new and exciting outlook for me."

We are all having fun working and cannot wait until tomorrow to start individual posts!

Countdown 2 days, Interview: Colt Helmer

Roundup is almost upon us! Just two days until the Clover Coverage staff meets in College Station at Texas A&M! We can't wait for the fun to start! Today we hear from Colt Helmer about his experience preparing for roundup!

"One of my favorite parts of Clover Coverage were the interviews. I had a lot of fun seeing what the adults and instructors thought of this year's roundup and the process of getting it going. This blog has probably been my favorite aspect. It's a new concept for our Texas 4-H Press Corp. Its always fun to start a new tradition. I cannot wait until roundup where we will all be blogging every day! There's a great group of people involved with Clover Coverage and they've been great to work with. They make this the best roundup experience I've had."

This will definitely be a roundup to remember. Be sure to check back tomorrow- the FINAL day before Roundup gets started! We can't wait!

Countdown 3 days, Interview: Amy Dromgoole

Here we are on Day 3 of our countdown to roundup! Hope everyone is getting excited and prepared for the week's activities. Today we get to hear from Amy Dromgoole our "unofficial" Clover Coverage staff member. She is a senior agricultural communications major at Texas Tech and has helped with layouts, taking photos and editing our articles.

"This experience has been great. I didn't know what to expect but every step of this process has been fun. I have to say my favorite part would have to be the "Q&A" sections in the newsletter. The staff interviewed Toby Lepley, Kyle Merten, Chris Boleman and council advisors Kelli Lehman and Matt Tarpley. I think readers will be interested in hearing what these people have to say - I know I was. I am also excited and nervous about the 4K for 4-H. I'm not much of a runner, but three of us Red Raiders had some shirts made so I hope I appreciate their "cuteness" when I'm running laps :-/. Other than that, I'm honored someone would think of me to help with the Press Corp. I write and do layouts at my internship all the time but never got to employ what I know to something that I care about: 4-H and youth - especially Colt Helmer, Whitley James and Erin Reid. It has been great to be a part of all of the new and exciting changes!"

So everyone get excited to participate in the brand new 2010 4-H roundup!

Countdown 4 Days, Interview: Erin Reid

Here we are! Four more days until we all meet at College Station for our biggest event in Texas 4-H each year, wow! It was not that long ago that we were all nervous to even begin thinking about and planning this project. And now that we are here...well now we're nervous to see how it unfolds! But don't you fret! Your second interview with a Road Review Staff Member is here!! Let's hear what Erin Reid has to say about working on this project!

"My favorite article I've written is on the Brison Bursey Band! I originally wanted to write it because Brison is from Quanah, Texas, which is in my district. He is really down to earth and easy to talk to so we got distracted when talking about Graham, Quanah and Childress and all of the people we both know. It was really fun to write. He told me to check out his new album which hit stores in April and said I would probably like the songs "California Can" and "I've Been Waiting." He was right! I love good concerts and I'm so excited to see a local guy rock roundup, especially since he wrote the "One Day" song for the 4-H One-Day Project. It has been really awesome to see people perform for us who take their time to help 4-Hers out. This project was a lot of fun for me since I worked on the Press Corp at the last State Congress and I love writing newspaper articles - especially the interesting ones. I really feel special to be able to start a new tradition for Texas 4-Hers."

Are you ready for the Brison Bursey concert? We are! We can't wait to see you there and hear the One Day song live in concert! Check in tomorrow for another interview of your Road's Review Staff!

P.S.- Did we mention that it's only four days away? Exciting!

Countdown 5 Days, Interview: Whitely James

Hey! Roundup starts next week! Aren't you excited? Here at Clover Coverage we have been busy like rabbits trying to make sure every story is just right for you. Then we thought maybe we should let you guys know what it's like here at the Road's Review. So today we bring you what council staff member, Whitley James has to say about working on this year's Clover Coverage Staff.

"My favorite thing so far about getting ready for roundup is being able to be behind the scenes on the most important event in Texas 4-H. I have attended Texas 4-H Roundup since I was old enough to attend and always dreamed of getting to contribute more than just in contests. Now that opportunity is finally here and I am so blessed to be working with such a wonderful group of people. What is also exciting is I get to be a part of a new tradition for roundup and that would be "Clover Coverage." I loved writing the feature on Kinsley Emshoff because she is such an important part of roundup this year. I also love writing articles about kids who are trying to to make a difference and leave their mark. It feels so awesome to be on the team who starts a new tradition and I hope everyone enjoys Clover Coverage: The Road's Review!!!"

We all agree with Whitley on how exciting and amazing it is to be on the first Clover Coverage Staff. It wouldn't be possible with our friends like Amy Dromgoole at Texas Tech and our encouraging sponsor Kyle Merten to help us out. So next time your enjoying our page remember to send them a thank you! And don't forget to buy your roundup T-Shirts! We had a very generous sponsor this year and we are all proud of them, so don't miss out on this one of a kind shirt! Check in later for more updates!
